3 Ways to Increase the Lifespan of Your HVAC System

HVAC maintenance

A common question for HVAC technicians is, can I make my HVAC unit last longer? The answer is yes. Here are three ways you can increase the lifespan of your heating and air conditioning system.

#1: Change the Air Filter

A dirty air filter leads to an HVAC system that works overtime, all the time, putting unnecessary stress on the parts and equipment. Something as simple and inexpensive as a new filter every 60-90 days can extend the life of the equipment past expectations.

#2: Don’t Skip Maintenance

Your HVAC system needs attention from an experienced HVAC technician twice a year. You should schedule maintenance in the spring before the AC turns on and in the fall before the furnace kicks in. Maintenance includes inspecting, calibrating, lubricating, and cleaning all the components that keep your heating and cooling system ticking. Without regular maintenance, your system’s life expectancy drops significantly. Not only that, but you could void your warranty when you neglect regular service.

#3: Upgrade Your Thermostat

Your thermostat is the boss of your HVAC system, instructing it when to turn on and when to turn off. An old model without smart functionality and programming capabilities can often lead to short cycling, improper shut off, and excessive run times, all leading to additional wear and tear on your system that shortens its lifespan.

Instead of worrying about the future cost of HVAC replacement, take a few simple steps to extend the life of your existing heating and cooling system. Contact G+S Heating and Air for all the information you need on maintenance, repairs, and upgrades.
